How to Write a Powerful Professional Summary
Before a recruiter looks at your experience, qualifications, or skills, there's one section that often determines whether they keep reading, your professional summary.
This short paragraph at the top of your CV is your opportunity to make a strong first impression.
A strong professional summary should answer three simple questions:
Who are you professionally?
What experience or skills do you
bring?
What value can you offer an
employer?
For example:
"Results-driven
Human Resources professional with over 4 years of experience in recruitment,
employee relations, and payroll administration. Proven ability to improve
hiring processes and support business growth through effective people
management."
Keep it
short, specific, and relevant to the role you're applying for.
Avoid vague
statements such as "I am a hardworking and dedicated individual seeking a
challenging opportunity." They tell recruiters very little about what you
can actually do.
A good
professional summary does not tell employers what you want, it quickly shows
them why they should keep reading your CV.
