How to Follow Up After Submitting a Job Application

August 04, 2026

After submitting a job application, it's normal to keep checking your email and wondering, "Should I reach out or just wait?"

The answer is simple: a polite follow-up is completely acceptable.

If the application deadline has passed and you haven't heard back after about a week, sending a short email to check on the status of your application can show genuine interest in the role.

Something as simple as:

"Good day, I recently applied for the position and wanted to kindly confirm that my application was received. I remain very interested in the opportunity and look forward to hearing from you."

works perfectly.

What most recruiters don't appreciate, however, are multiple follow-up emails within a few days or messages sent across WhatsApp, LinkedIn, and email at the same time.

A follow-up should serve as a gentle reminder, not a source of pressure.

And if you don't get a response? Don't stop your job search while waiting for one opportunity.

The best approach is to keep applying, keep improving your applications, and keep moving forward.
