Responsibilities

The Program Director will provide strategic direction and oversight on the program. S/He will develop and implement activities of the sustainable interface network in collaboration with other program stakeholders. This will include building partnerships and managing relationships with participating members of the program’s interface network. S/He will work closely with donor and other partners to build and implement the program’s sustainability plan.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. PROJECT MANAGEMENT

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive project implementation plan with a clear path for priority activities for all relevant stakeholders.
  • Coordinate activities of the project team to deliver results in line with the approved project plan and budget.
  • Manage project resources and adequately align the resources to the program design to the overall objectives are met.
  • Ensure that the project budget is spent in line with TechnoServe policies and the agreed donor activities in conjunction with the M&E coordinator and corporate measurements team, ensure that all necessary data are gathered efficiently and accurately.
  •  Lead preparation of project reports for submission to donors according to the project timeline and log frame.
  • Manage the project team; provide coaching, direction, and leadership support to implementing team members.
  • Ensure that the scope and impact of the different work plan activities are clearly definedand understood by all team members, including a clear understanding of roles, responsibilities, and short term activities and goals.
  • Develop and maintain close working relationships with key local and national level personnel in government and in the private organizations that have an interest in the sector.
  • Monitor interactions with important national level stakeholders, ensuring that the team’s communication is consistent and aligned with the program’s approach
  • Ensure strict compliance to TechnoServe policies and raise any concerns with management.
  •  Oversee the implementation of a plan that helps resolve any occasional discrepancies and irregularities.
  • Strict adherence to timeframe of assignments in project life-scope.
  • Any other tasks that may be assigned.

B.  REPRESENTATION

  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with donor program officers/liaisons, program partners involved in the project, other private sector players in the value chain, as well as local partners in the country.
  • Establish TechnoServe as a leader in the agricultural sector, and in particular build our standing as the go-to organization for innovative corporate partnerships that deliver impacts
  • Represent the project and organization, at internal and external functions, as assigned.

C. BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

  •  Actively engage in discussions with donors and partners around the potential next phase of the project, creatively brainstorming with the team on interventions most likely to increase impact and sustainability as well as likely source of funding.
  • Contribute to program design and proposal development in support of a broader proposal development team.

D. IMPACT

  • Ensures project goal of increased competitiveness of the Nigerian agricultural sector is achieved; ensures that agreed-upon project milestones are achieved in a timely, effective and efficient manner; uses evidence from project M&E to adapt the project strategy and tactics as needed to reach the project goal and revise milestones accordingly; assures adequate support to implementation team; establishes strong and collaborative working relationships with partners and other key stakeholders.

General Requirements

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 10 years’ relevant project management experience relating to either agribusiness, SME development or providing training and advisory services.
  • Master’s degree in business administration, economics, management and other relevant field is mandatory.
  • Experience with or knowledge of the technology and innovation ecosystem in Nigeria is an added advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and roll out project management systems to facilitate timeliness of delivery, cost effectiveness and compliance.
  • Strong financial analysis (e.g., budget management) and project management skills;
  • Training and experience working with entrepreneurs; added advantage
  • Track record of building and managing strong client and stakeholder relationships with private, public sector and government.
  • Experience in analytical and strategic roles within the private sector will be an added advantage.
  • Ability to develop well written, cohesive analyses and reports;
  •  Excellent communication, analytical and strategy skills.
  • Confident with project management and reporting.
  • Experience with relevant software packages, including Microsoft Excel;
  •  Willingness to travel locally and internationally when necessary.
