About the Project:

In partnership with Synergos Development Innovations, TechnoServe is working to transform the agricultural sector through the State Partnership for Agriculture (SPA). SPA uses a systems change approach to re-orient and strengthen key state actors in the sector in Benue, Kogi and Kaduna. As a consulting partner to Synergos, TechnoServe is providing implementation support aimed at improving decision-making at the federal and state levels, engaging critical private sector partners to promote agricultural investment, and conducting capacity building interventions.

Primary purpose:

The Communications Consultant will undertake the responsibility of producing internal and external communication materials for the State Partnership for Agriculture Program. The Consultant will work from TechnoServe’s Abuja office and would travel to project sites in other regions to conduct other aspects of their work. It should be understood that the tasks outlined below are the key responsibilities, but the full scope of woks will be provided upon engagement. The duration of the task will have a span of 3 months from the date of engagement.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct a communication analysis of the target audience for the State Partnership for Agriculture
  • Design, formulate and lead the development of the communications and advocacy strategy within the scope of the State Partnership for Agriculture
  • Consult and meet with project counterparts, stakeholders and beneficiaries to ensure their views are captured in outreach activities to reflect the human element and development results of the project
  • Support project events (launches, field visits, ceremonies, etc.) with a view to issue actionable recommendations to improve event management, outreach and advocacy around key development dimensions
  • Advise and support the organization of publicity/outreach for the project, knowledge sharing events and promotional opportunities
  • Participate and support the communications network of the project
  • Contribute to identifying new and creative ways to enhance visibility and outreach of project deliverables and results
  • Create work plan with clear deliverable outcomes, indicators and tools for the implementation of the strategy
  • Any other task that may be assigned

Deliverables:

  • Assessment of current communication landscape for SPA
  • Detailed communication strategy cutting across all media platforms.
  • Project events launch strategies
  • Training approach for upload of promotional materials (blog-style)
  • Work plan with clear deliverable outcomes, indicators and tools for the implementation of the strategy

General Requirements

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum 3 - 5 work experience in marketing and communications role, preferably in an international NGO or FMCG.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communication or related field.
  • Knowledge of the international development sector
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, technical writing and communications skills.
  • Good network and contacts across various media channels, including social media
  • Teaching/sharing business knowledge for improving communication processes
  • Computer literacy with excellent MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint skills.
  • Graphical literacy with excellent skills using graphics and communication related software
  • Ability to travel (25% travel involved)
